Adarsha Vidya Mandir |
AVM was established in 2022 BS by the late Mr. Satya Narayan Bahadur Shrestha in Bhairab Bhawan, Lalitpur, with 50 boarders and 7 day scholars. In 2032 BS, AVM moved to Manbhawan. In addition, Mr. Shrestha founded the Mahendra Adarsha Vidyashram in Satdobato and the Tribhuvan Adarsha Vidyalaya in Pharping.
His Majesty Late King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev nominated him as the only founding principal of a school to the National Education Committee. The number of students has risen to 2000 and has done so for decades.
HISTORY
The history of AVM High School is linked with the history of the late Satya Narayan Bahadur Shrestha, who is regarded by many as a selfless educationalist who spent his whole life in the field of education. With 120 students at a rented building known as Bhairab Bhavan (which was later acquired by the Himalaya Hotel at Kupondol, Lalitpur, Nepal), AVM High School has six modern buildings, three playgrounds, and two basketball courts. The school offers education from grade 1 to School Leaving Certificate level (equivalent to O levels offered by University of Cambridge).
AVM High School has also been conducting a 10+2 program since 2058 B.S., in the fields of Science and Management. AVM High School is semi-public school initiated by one of a guthi (community).
SALIENT FEATURES
Character is at the center of Adarsha Vidya Mandir, hence the name Adarsha (ideal). While academics are and should be the main focus, the school also pays attention to other crucial areas of child development, offering all kinds of children—not just bookish ones—enough room to develop. The school has all the essential facilities, including a dorm, lab, library, playgrounds, transportation, and extracurricular activities, which are not considered "facilities" but rather the building blocks for a student's development.
The school takes pride in its own property at Man Bhawan, which includes numerous buildings and grounds as well as an auditorium hall to house students at all levels of school education. Its infrastructure has encouraged creativity and confidence while allowing employees at AVM to try a variety of things without feeling overly constrained. The Pre-School wing, which was only recently established in 2069 for children aged three to six years, uses international play-way methodologies in a welcoming environment. The junior school section of the school offers lunch service as well.
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AT AVM
At AVM, education is not supposed to be monotonous. According to how teachers try to aid students' learning, students are given plenty of opportunities to discover what interests them, their pace, and their learning style. Students feel comfortable asking questions because teachers and students get along well with one another. On the other hand, teachers are also very familiar with their students. As a result, teachers are better able to assist various students according to their needs.
CONCEPT OF INTEGRATED EDUCATION AT AVM
Teachers of various subjects collaborate on shared interests. Students can easily comprehend the context and its use this way. Students actually learn more effectively when they can relate various subjects to one another and to real-world situations. When possible, teachers connect topics when they talk to one another about their courses. At AVM, teachers carry out exactly this activity. As a result, both students and teachers look beyond the confines of the curriculum to find, use, and reflect the true meaning of the majority of the topics covered.
Class is unusual in that neither the teacher nor the board or books are frequently used as a primary teaching tool. Students typically discuss their lessons while seated in groups. Situations that they initially approach at their own pace present challenges for them both individually and in groups. Learning simply occurs from one another, not always from the teacher. Most of the time in all of our classes, students are involved in a variety of activities, which helps them develop their critical thinking, self-confidence, and teamwork abilities.
We place equal value on extracurricular activities and this has been a focus for us. We have the spaces and resources to give students a big enough canvas to discover their strengths. To provide our students with opportunities to explore their talent in the performing arts, fine arts, music, speaking, and sports, we have partnered with numerous other talented people. Every effort is made to incorporate these extracurricular activities into students' overall development and cognitive development. To make students' learning relevant and useful, we use the best progressive education framework while adhering to Nepal's curriculum. We firmly believe that "teaching and testing" ought to go hand in hand.
