His Contribution To The Rana Family

The weight of responsibility sat heavily on his shoulders after his elder brother’s epochal visit to England was finalized. As the next brother in line and Commander-in-Chief of the Army he, Bam Bahadur, would be the officiating prime minister during his brother’s long sojourn. When the politics in Nepal got re-calibrated after the Kot Massacre, Jung Bahadur Rana had secured an edict from the new king Surendra Bikram Shah to rule Nepal in perpetuity with the post of prime minister going to the next brother in agnatic succession.

Prime Minister Jung Bahadur was incredibly appreciative of his younger brothers' moral and physical support during that crucial night at the Kot, when everyone's lives were in danger. In response to Queen Rajya Luxmi Devi's midnight summons, the family had hurried to the armory. The regiment led by General Abhiman Singh Rana Magar was said to be en route to the court. The queen was warned by Jung that it was unsafe for her to be there. At this point, General Abhiman wanted to leave the court but was stopped by a security.

The general was bayoneted to death after an incident. The son of Prime Minister Fatteh Jung, Khadga Bikram, was alarmed by the course of events and charged Jung and his siblings with killing Gagan Singh. He charged Bam Bahadur with his sword drawn and hit him. Bam raised his arm to protect himself but lost the thumb that was cushioning the blow. As a result, the strike left a severe gash in his head; otherwise, he might have died. The result was a wild brawl. Bam caught a sight of his younger brother Dhir killing the attacker. Jung's soldiers then suddenly charged into the courtyard and began firing. The prime minister Fatteh Jung Shah was among the 58 people who died that night, according to records.
