RANODIP SINGH KUNWAR RANAJI

The second leader of Nepal's Rana dynasty, Ranaudip Singh Bahadur Kunwar Ranaji (also written Rana Uddip, Renaudip, or Ranoddip) served as prime minister. His Excellence Commanding General Shree Shree Shree Maharaja Sir was his preferred address.

Deeply devout, Ranodip Singh wrote several devotional hymns. In 1883, the British gave him a personal salute of 15 guns, and in 1882, the Guangxu Emperor gave him the title of Tung-ling-ping-ma-kuo-kang-wang (Truly Valiant Prince; Commander of Foot and Horse). He was the seventh child and Ganesh Kumari Thapa's (daughter of Thapa Kazi General Nain Singh Thapa) second wife to Kaji Bal Narsingh Kunwar.

He succeed his clan after his brother Jung Bahadur Rana's death.

Ranodip Singh replaced his older brother Jang Bahadur after his death in 1877, according to the family roll of succession.

Failed coup attempt of 1882

Chautariya Colonel Ambar Bikram Shah and his Gorkhali aide, the son of General H.E. Sri Chautaria Pushkar Shah, staged a coup. The Ranas murdered Chautariya Colonel Ambar Bikram Shah and four other individuals in Teku for their role in Ranodip Singh's attempted murder.

Successful coup d'etat of 1885

During a coup d'état in 1885, Ranodip Singh was slain by his nephews (Khadga Shumsher, Bhim Shumsher, and Dambar Shumsher). Bir Shamsher, his nephew, succeeded him.
